Columbus Children’s Theatre brings this classic fairy tale to life! Lonely Jack is forced to sell his cow so he and his family can have money to buy food. A mysterious old man convinces little Jack to give up his cow in exchange for magic beans. Appalled by this trade, Jack’s mother throws the beans outside and sends the boy to bed without supper. Over night the beans grew into a giant stalk which leads to a kingdom above the clouds. A large, but aloof, giant lives in the kingdom, and provides the perfect opportunity for Jack to get into trouble.
Join us after the performance for an acting workshop hosted by Talespinners Children’s Theatre! The workshop will focus on themes from the play and provide an introduction to the “actor tools” of “mind, body, and voice.”
Performance is 50 minutes and optional workshop is around 30-40 minutes.
Listen as distinguished Cleveland Orchestra cellist Paul Kushious and colleagues reveal Franz Schubert’s “last dream” and perform his sublime
masterpiece String Quintet in C major. Unpublished for 25 years, it was only after Schubert’s passing that his musical genius received the recognition it deserved, with this final work being regarded as one of the greatest composition in all chamber music.
Featuring cellists Paul Kushious and Tanya Ell, violinists Yun-Ting Lee and Isabel Trautwein, and violist Yu Jin.
A dessert reception with the performers will follow the concert.
Leapin’ Lizards! Hard to believe it’s been 40 years since the darling red-headed orphan debuted on Broadway, and that she took so many hard knocks along the way. It was lyricist and director Martin Charnin’s idea to make a family musical based on the famous comic strip—just about everyone on Broadway thought he was crazy. Only when Mike Nichols stepped in as producer was the show saved, and the trials and tribulations paid off in a Tony Award-winning bonanza. We’ll include all of the songs from Charnin and Charles Strouse’s terrific score including the iconic “Tomorrow,” “Maybe,” “It’s a Hard-Knock Life,” “Easy Street” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” Annie’s story—and our back story of this feel-good musical’s creation—is filled with hope that the “sun’ll come out tomorrow.”
